A Whole New Way to Work on Your Recovery
Arbour-HRI Hospital, 227 Babcock Street, Brookline, will host a free 11-session class for those working on their recovery starting on Wednesday, November 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Based on the concept of peer-to-peer communication, support and interaction, participants are empowered by shared experiences, learn various techniques and take away practical tools and coping methods to aid their recovery going forward. NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, developed the Peer-to-Peer educational program. New drop-in center in Attleboro to help with addiction, mental illness
Arbour-Fuller Hospital in South Attleboro and the Attleboro Police Department have teamed up to address opiate addiction. The hospital and police department’s Problem Oriented Police (POP) team have collaborated to create a monthly drop-in clinic and resource center for those affected by substance abuse and/or mental illness.

Arbour-Fuller Hospital Expands Treatment Capacity, Announces new partnership with Milford Regional Medical Center
Arbour-Fuller Hospital today announced the addition of 12 psychiatric inpatient beds and a new partnership with Milford Regional Medical Center to further support the mental health needs of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The new beds fill a critical resource for adults struggling with primary mental health issues and a secondary addictions disorder. The bed conversion comes at a time when the need to treat acute patients requiring inpatient level of care and who have co-occurring addictions issues is particularly significant.

Dr. Tetyana Tarnavsky Joins Arbour-Fuller Hospital
Dr. Tetyana Tarnavsky, MD, PhD, is the newest attending psychiatrist to join Arbour-Fuller Hospital’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). “I am looking forward to working with the caring staff at Arbour-Fuller Hospital and serving individuals across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island who are struggling with behavioral health issues,” said Dr. Tarnavsky. Dr. Tarnavsky brings over fifteen years of psychiatric experience to Arbour-Fuller Hospital, with multiple peer-reviewed publications concerning behavioral disorder in young persons with computer addiction.

Local Nurse Specialist Receives National Certified Nurse Award
Arbour SeniorCare today announced that Michael LaFerney, PhD, RN, PMHCNS, BC, was selected by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to receive the 2017 Certified Nurse Award. The Certified Nurse Award is given annually to approximately a dozen nurses across the country who demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence in patient care. LaFerney is a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist at Arbour SeniorCare where he has provided care to elderly patients with behavioral and mental health disorders since 2002.

New CEO of Pembroke Hospital Appointed
Raymond Robinson was recently appointed CEO of Pembroke Hospital, a 120-bed private behavioral health facility located in Pembroke. Robinson was the chief operating officer of Pembroke Hospital from 1983 to 1997. “I am very pleased to return to Pembroke Hospital to lead a team of dedicated and talented physicians, nurses, social workers and other behavioral health, administrative, and support staff,” said Robinson. “Together, we strive to understand and meet the complex needs of our patients and to achieve high standards of clinical excellence in the services we provide. We are also committed to the Hospital being an active and responsible member of the Pembroke business community.”

Arbour Hospital Donates Kindle Fires to The English High School Library
Arbour Hospital has donated ten Kindle Fires to The English High School in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. The Kindles will be used in the school’s recently renovated library as tools to help improve literacy, add to available technology and better prepare students for life after graduation.

Commentary: Community support for LGBTQ neighbors
Many transgender individuals have been stigmatized and marginalized by their communities and deal with issues like trauma, sexual abuse, violence, depression, eating disorders, the emotional impact of HIV and co-occurring psychiatric and addiction disorders. It is more important than ever that we as a community reduce the stigmatization of transgender individuals and fully recognize the impact of stigmatization on an individual’s mental health.
