Two Lowell Spinners “Pitch and Play” with Lowell Treatment Center Child and Adolescent PatientsOn August 3, Lowell Spinners’ second baseman Drew Dominguez and first baseman Drew Hedman held a two-hour “pitch and play” clinic with the children and adolescents at the Lowell Treatment Center. The activities included a pitching clinic for all the children, a throwing demonstration, a very spirited basketball game with many of the adolescents and a one-on-one autograph and question session. Nearly all of the children participated in the clinic by the Red Sox
Single A farm team. All the patients received an autographed poster and
one-on-one attention from the players. Lowell Spinners Director of Events, Leslie Herrman, worked with Lowell Treatment Center Director RJ Lawson to put on the event. Herrman reported that it was the best thing she had seen in her time with the Spinners and was anxious to plan additional events. When the children were thanking the players, Lawson noticed Hedman taking a deep breath and asked what he was thinking. The first baseman said, “I didn’t know what to expect, but what I got
was awesome.”
