The goal of this program is to provide diagnosis and treatment to persons with intellectual disabilities and behavioral or psychiatric disorders. Program components include: responsive treatment by a multidisciplinary clinical team; assessment and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions; medication consultation and monitoring; psychological and neuropsychological testing; individualized behavioral treatment; individual, group and family therapies; and regular consultation/coordination with outpatient service providers.
Intellectual disability services for adults are available at Arbour-Fuller Hospital. Arbour-Fuller’s unit is a collaborative program with Advocates and the Department of Developmental Services.

To make a referral to this program, all referrers must first call the Intake Department with demographic, clinical and insurance information. The staff at the Intellectual Disabilities Unit may reach out to the referrer for additional information. The referral source will be notified if the patient will be admitted or placed on a waiting list due to capacity issues.
