The goal of this program is to provide diagnosis and treatment to persons with intellectual disabilities and behavioral or psychiatric disorders. Program components include: responsive treatment by a multidisciplinary clinical team; assessment and stabilization of acute psychiatric conditions; medication consultation and monitoring; psychological and neuropsychological testing; individualized behavioral treatment; individual, group and family therapies; and regular consultation/coordination with outpatient service providers.
Intellectual disability services for adults are available at Arbour-Fuller Hospital. Arbour-Fuller’s unit is a collaborative program with South Shore Mental Health and the Department of Developmental Services.

To make a referral to this program, all referrers must first call the Intake Department with demographic and insurance information. Following this, the Patient Referral Form should be completed and faxed to the Intellectual Disabilities team at 508-838-2228. The team will review information sent within 24 business hours of receipt. The referral source will be notified if the patient will be admitted or placed on a waiting list due to capacity issues. Projected bed availability will be identified at that time.
